BREAKING: President Donald Trump on Friday said he is signing an executive order to keep TikTok running in the U.S. for another 75 days to give his administration more time to broker a deal to bring the social media platform under American ownership. Congress had mandated that the platform be divested from China by Jan. 19 or barred in the U.S. on national security grounds, but Trump moved unilaterally to extend the deadline to this weekend, as he sought to negotiate an agreement to keep it running. 1 day to go!!! 🙌 Tomorrow we open #NAB2025 with a focus on something that feels long overdue: a workflow that actually works the way newsrooms do. At the heart of it is #APStorytelling, built by journalists, producers, and technologists who’ve all felt the friction of disconnected systems and version overload. What’s different: - It’s #storyfirst, not platform-first - It works across broadcast, digital, and social - without duplicating work - It uses AI to support teams, not take over decisions If you're curious about '#ResponsibleAI' and how it fits into real workflows, or you just want to talk news, come find us at booth #SL1905!

The Trump administration is cracking down on international students, quietly terminating their legal status in the United States with little to no notice to colleges. Students stripped of their entry visas are receiving orders from the Department of Homeland Security to leave the country immediately — a break from past practice that often permitted them to stay and complete their studies. “These are troubling times, and this situation is unlike any we have navigated before,” one president wrote in a letter to campus. For educators, administrators and students who are feeling the effects of changes in Washington, please know that we are always interested in hearing from you, and happy to speak confidentially. When is DEI illegal? The Equal Enforcement Opportunity Commission posted two “technical assistance” documents to explain when DEI-related practices violate Title VII of the Civil Act and other anti-discrimination laws. The documents only deepened the debate. This week, 10 former EEOC commissioners and counsels posted an open letter to the legal community criticizing the document and offer counter-guidance. The EEOC's "technical assistance" documents describe scenarios in which some programs _ anti-bias training, employee resource groups, diverse candidate slate policies, fellowships and internships _ risk violating the country’s anti-discrimination laws. In their own statement, the 10 former EEOC officials argued these new documents rely on rare cases of discrimination to take broad aim at practices that are lawful and help prevent discrimination. The EEOC's new anti-DEI focus represents a profound shift for the country's main agency for enforcing worker rights. Read my latest with Claire Savage for The Associated Press.

President Donald Trump has unveiled his latest tariffs, and they could have significant implications for your wallet. Trump’s sweeping new tariffs, on top of previous levies and retaliation worldwide, are expected to increase prices for everyday items. The trade wars have already roiled financial markets and plunged businesses into uncertainty — all while economists warn of potentially weakened economic growth and heightened inequality. Which impacts will be felt by consumers and workers first? And what can households do in the face of so much uncertainty? Here’s what you need to know, with The Associated Press:

A notice to customers dazzled by the low-priced products on Chinese shopping apps: the days of getting trendy clothing, tools and gag gifts that cost less than lunch delivered to your door in 10 days are probably numbered. President Donald Trump is ending a little-known but widely used exemption that has allowed as many as 4 million low-value parcels — most of them originating in China — to arrive in the U.S. every day tax-free. An executive order the president signed Wednesday will eliminate the “de minimis provision” for goods from China and Hong Kong on May 2. The tax exemption, which applies to packages valued at $800 or less, has helped China-founded e-commerce companies like Shein and Temu to thrive while cutting into the U.S. retail market. “Shoppers had a full array of product and options of timing,” Marshal Cohen, chief retail advisor at market research firm Circana, said. “Now, they’re going to have a limited array of options and timing: so you can still buy this product, but you may have to wait three or four weeks.” My story with AP's Didi Tang. The Associated Press
